WORLD SKEET CHAMPIONSHIP 2025: Fri 3rd Oct (from Martin Brister)

2:30pm last flight 28g field 19, middle of second bank. Thinking of banks Wells Fargo charged $10 to cash a San Antonio GC cheque. Same city, too. Hot and breezy, blue sky and white cumulus. 560 competitors. Started 25, 23 annoyingly with a lo8, 23 another lo8 and 25 finish - a wasted 96. Charlie 98, Matt Fallon 99 so now 399 and, I think, Nick Marsden 99.
16 x 100's in AAA
5 x 100's in AA
2 x 100's in A
3 x 99's in B
3 x 97's in C
Bad, bad decision by NSSA hierarchy to shoot the 100's out on fields 2, 3 & 4. And, yes, I know 23 is a long line but a Main World Champion deserves to tie shoot against his peers and receive the acclamation of the stadium to his success. As it turned out only Stuart Brown was left on field 2 amongst the bulk of the AAA's and he didn't need to finish the box to win it - fields 3 and 4 split between the other classes. This has happened before, also 28g, and NSSA should know that, particularly in 28g doubles, the field is cut in half by station 5 or back on 4. Disappointing for Stuart, albeit tinged with satisfaction. The Texan lad shot 50 then 2 x 24's for a creditable 98. Tomorrow 9:30am for .410 and the end of the World.

Current HOA standings (there could be a 400 in AA)
...

And in HAA there is only one x 500
...

And in Veterans - still an opportunity to climb
...

And lighter...

WORLD SKEET CHAMPIONSHIP 2025: Weds 1st Oct (from Martin Brister)

Clear blue sky, sun and heat - also on field 3 which is largely concreted for disability purposes, but it does hold and reflect heat. 11am light breeze, 24 lo5 idle shot, 24 hi1 glad of finish, 24 lo 3 and 24 lo 4 again idle to finish 97. Young Texan lad, 14 yrs, shooting in front of me, yesterday 96 but today his first 100. Took it cooly as youth does. Appreciated by old hands in the squad. Hat shot tonight in stadium.
20 x 200's ran a long line for the 12g World Championship.

...

After a box down to 8 with 2 falling on the last station 4. It was a long session and have to say l joined a long line for free beer and fried chicken and missed conclusion but it was over in half a further box.
...
12g Vets looks like above which is also the HOA. Tomorrow 20g at 1pm on field 13, in the second row, probably the elevated section. Young Texan still (6:45pm) waiting for his West shoot off amongst the 40 x 100's, too long a line for all to shoot together. They will shoot on fields 2-6 in their classes and only those doing the box, again depending on numbers, will end up in the stadium to finish. 7:25pm he got to station 4 3rd time and probably won TS1 (i.e. Triple Sub his class).

re: IRON MAN 5-6 April

Event getting ever closer.

Am advised by a distance travelling participant that his squadding sadly does not work as his return journey flight is pre booked and has asked shoot management to assist.

I have re squadded to allow his pre booked ticket return to stand.
Having to move another to allow this.

The moves are not lightly taken and trust any other subsequent moves on the day to even up any misnomers will be accepted by all in good faith.

I'm thinking that all the pre communication from me prior to event launch creates more issues than some like?

Participants pre booked to squads often fail to confirm event entry before arriving at the venue which costs time and effort at shoot control on the day.

So with effect from UK Open listed for June 27-28-29 at Eriswell.
I will advise all members first week of May that online booking is open.
Unless you fully complete the online entry form, as you would for any other Skeet shoot within the UK and pay, you will not be squadded.

Any questions or queries arising please let me know.

Best regards

IAIN STAMP MEMORIAL SHOOT Dartford 1st December 2024

...

Hi all
As most of you will know, earlier this year we lost likely the UK’s top Skeet referee Iain Stamp.
ESC in association with Dartford Clay shooting arranged very quickly this event, BSSA were invited to partake and were honoured to be there.

Wasn’t the typical British bright sunny day, warm, no wind at all and the targets sliding beautifully across the ranges 😂😇.
Weather wasn’t exactly torrential rain but the stuff that gets through even a lightweight rain stopper and soaks.

Fortunately without too much pleading we had a squad. On the day one had to pull out as wasn’t well enough sadly. Trust he will recover well and soon. As luck had it another BSSA member rocked up and we gained permission from John Walker to move him into our squad, we back to full strength.
Thank you John.

So off we go, no rain first couple of rounds, got to round three and it got quite wet very quickly, round four and we were done thankfully.

A big thank you from me to

Russell Swain
Danny Woods and his awesome side by side
Michael Gatehouse
Karl Davis
Myself

Scores were variable, Russ did well and I missed baseline targets as usual 😂😱😈. No change there then.

We will as BSSA be holding an Iain Stamp Trophy shoot next September likely at Dartford unless members advise where else they prefer to be in enough numbers?
I will keep you all updated
So do take care of yourselves and have a KOOL YULE

European Open 13-15 September 2024

“Hi all
Friday Doubles. Saturday 20 & 28 Gauges. Sunday 12 & 410
Fine and bright all three days...Eventually...Blustery and interesting winds moving Skeet targets every which way. Results as shown on home page along with pictures of recipients
Shoot offs for honours too. Not boxes sadly. Pairs 3-4-5. Don’t think anyone got to station five on way out let alone back
Great weekend. Will do it again sometime soon

European Open 13-15 September 2024

“Hello
Do not often get a chance to write anything for our site, apologies from me, I do however advise a little of what is going on over on Facebook or whatever they call it now.
This event was originally booked at Dartford per last shoot calendar and entries will open in the next few days. We did have input from members asking if possible to move closer to the Midlands, I conferred with rest of custodians and UK Director and a unanimous agreement was quickly acted upon. Very lucky in that ERISWELL were not busy that weekend and I provisionally held the dates subject to input from regular Major shoot participants going back into 2023. The results were better than 2-1 for moving the Event, therefore proving a little democracy can work wonders! Other grounds were mentioned and I will explore more options into 2025.
I look forward to seeing you all as soon as you can.
Best regards
